A compacted stone base typically consists of several layers of materials, including a layer of crushed stone, a layer of sharp sand, and a layer of geotextile fabric. The crushed stone layer is typically about 4-6 inches thick and provides a stable foundation for the artificial turf. The sharp sand layer helps to level the surface and provides additional support for the grass fibers. The geotextile fabric layer helps to prevent weeds from growing through the artificial grass and also helps to keep the layers of the base separate.
Another option for an artificial grass turf base is a concrete base. This type of base is typically used for larger areas where heavy foot traffic or equipment may be present. A concrete base provides excellent stability and support for the artificial grass, but it can be more expensive and time-consuming to install than a compacted stone base.
